After a career working in hospitality management, I was given the opportunity to join the amazing community at South Seattle College as an instructor in the Hospitality Management Bachelor of Applied Science Program. This unique program partners with leading industry professionals to develop men and women with a passion for service to be managers in fields such as hotels, restaurants, cruise lines, private clubs, tourism and event planning.
With this opportunity I've been allowed to share my experiences in managing risks, human resources, purchasing and finance with students that are learning how to manage and own their own businesses.
Faculty - Hospitality Management BAS Program
• Create and Teach courses in the following fields: Employment Law/Human Resources Management; Risk Management; Finance and Accounting; and, Marketing
• Partner with hospitality industry partners to create pathways for employment of students and graduates including mentoring and internship programs.
Risk Management/Human Resources
• Created all internal employment policies, investor documents and vendor agreements for early stage technology companies in preparation for raising private capital
• Managed Company’s intellectual property assets
• Negotiated sales and licensing agreements
• Assisted in raising over $6 million from angel investors
Co-Chief Operating Officer
• Directly supervised human resources, purchasing, marketing, accounting, information technology, legal, investor relations and public relations departments
• Coordinated outside counsel and auditors for SEC compliance and litigation matters
• Coordinated filing of all required SEC documents including working with CFO, outside auditors and the Audit Committee/Board of Directors
• Negotiated and drafted all licensing, service, publishing and vendor agreements
• Assisted Human Resources with training and responded to all EEOC and related employee administrative claims
Corporate Secretary, Risk Management
• Successfully managed risk management, purchasing, marketing, compliance and business ethics departments (staffing, budgeting, employment reviews)
• Supported Human Resources through the creation and enforcement of employment policies and training programs
• Investigated EEOC and related employment matters
• Supported business operations through the negotiation of vendor and facilities agreements for IT support, office leases/Tenant Improvements and equipment
• Developed national safety training programs for 5500 employee company
• Created national vendor pre-qualification program for managed properties covering over 20,000 vendors
• Negotiated all insurance purchases including employee benefits, workers compensation and property/GL programs
• Managed outside legal counsel and PR firms
• Rolled-out national employee arbitration/dispute resolution process
• Created and enforced Compliance/Business Ethics Group
• Managed all fair housing, property and liability claims from 200,000 residential units of multi-family portfolio of managed properties
