Over my 25 year career as an accounting professor I have helped colleagues and students alike find and develop synergies between intellectual curiosity, commitment to excellence and community engagement. Professors who are wonderful, energetic and passionate teachers pass on their love for and understanding of accounting to generations of students. I have extensive experience helping new instructors develop these attributes.
Professors who are creative, smart researchers see new connections and find intersections between personal interests, experiences, theory and the profession. The pursuit of an academic career informs the researcher and their students, their colleagues and the profession. In working with a wide variety of younger researchers I have found that co-authoring a research paper is one of the most effective ways to encourage and mentor.
I thoroughly enjoy the challenges involved in running an academic department, and foster in others the belief that there are very few unsolvable problems. Through effective leadership and management, I have developed new curriculum, pursued new faculty initiatives, and increased department resources and engagement.
Together, academic department members can have an amazing effect on students, the program and the university; most importantly, we can have an amazing effect on each other.
