D.J. has thirty years of training and development experience in transportation, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, and textile industries. Currently, he is a senior instructional designer for GP Strategies. For twenty years, D.J. has developed innovative and popular online courses for leadership and sales training. As a trainer and consultant, D.J. designs and conducts needs assessments with his clients to identify performance gaps and learner profiles. As a classroom trainer, D.J. is patient, thorough, and very engaging. He has served organizations such as Intel, Comcast, Sony, General Electric, Alsco, Abbott Labs, Symantec, Exelon, and Pella Windows. He also serves as adjunct instructor at Portland State University, where he teaches courses in the graduate training and development certificate program.

Facilitating courses for the Training and Development Graduate certificate program in the Educational Leadership and Policy department at the Graduate School of Education:
Principles of Training & Development: Essential principles related to developing training objectives, selecting training methods, sequencing information, and evaluating training outcomes. Designed for new and established trainers who are ready to incorporate adult learning theory into their programs.
Developing Online Training: Students will apply experiential learning principles to develop a brief online training activity using a rapid develop tool called Captivate. Students will also explore storyboard methods, project management issues, and testing protocols.
eLearning Strategies: Students will explore the terrain of contemporary eLearning modalities in the pursuit of a blended learning program design. Students will also explore topics such as cognitive load, best practices in VILT, scalability, and needs assessment.
Instructional Design for Online Training: Examine the adult learning instructional strategies, interactive techniques, information architecture, and user interface design principles used in online training. Analyze audience learning and experience preferences, training requirements, and content objectives and use that information to choose appropriate online training strategies and methods.
President
Effective November 1, I begin a one-year term as President of the local ATD chapter in Portland, Oregon. My goals for the chapter include:
• Ensuring a schedule of innovative and timely learning events
• Employing new and innovative marketing tactics
• Increasing outreach and support to geographic areas beyond Portland metro
• Increasing the chapter's volunteer base
• Maintaining fiscal oversight and working toward balanced revenue streams
I work with paid staff and a team of more than 30 volunteers to deliver all of the chapter’s services. Portland has a vibrant workplace learning community. We anticipate new opportunities to strengthen the level of support we provide to our membership throughout the year.
