Poor
Engineering is both an interesting and an important subject as we become aware of what is taking place all over the world and as we become informed about the impact that human beings are having on our environment.
Awesome
Having had him for ENGR 111, I went a picked him a second time for ENGR 112. Wonderful professor who cares about students and their success. Cares a lot about team work and has really helpful lectures. Hard class, but he gets a 10 in my book.
Good
ENGR 112 is a very challenging class, but Prof. Spears is really nice and he makes it tolerable. He clearly knows his stuff and covers all the material you need to know better than other profs. Class is really tough, but he isn't to blame for that.
Average
Prof. Spears' lectures are boring, but you can tell that he is well-prepared and that he really knows his stuff unlike the other 112 professors. If you plan to take him, be prepared to do all the pre-activities and homeworks, even if it's just readings, because they are worth a huge percentage of your grade.
Awesome
No matter who you take for this class, material is really difficult. You just have to utilize SI and help desk hours.
Good
Spears was my only option for ENG 112. You're done-so either way. He will make you really work hard for an A. However, he's a cool dude. I wouldn't take him again just because I don't want to deal with Foundations of Engineering again. Hate the class instead of hating him because he's just doing his job.
Awesome
Professor Spears is respectful, kind, and really cares about teaching. The class is very project heavy. This means that it can be a lot of work with unreliable group mates or a breeze with the opposite. Just a piece of advice, choose who you sit with on the first day wisely. Surprisingly, I found his honor exams were harder than CS121 exams. Overall, he's a great guy.
Awesome
Professor Spears is a fair grader and explains the subject matter well. He wants his students to learn how to think and always ask for feedback for him to teach better. He'll walk around groups and ask about our thought process. He encourages you to critically think for yourself and helps you along your thought process, rather than telling you what to do or how to do it by the book.
Good
Prof. Spears is an amazing guy who really takes time to get to know his students. His class was pretty enjoyable and his assignments were made to be fun and challenging. Class is set up so people with heavy coding exp will have an easy time. Otherwise, you'll only have a fairly good time.
Awesome
Since I have no prior coding experience, this was very challenging for me, but it was also doable because of the lectures and availability outside of class. I suggest you choose a good lab group at the beginning, because it would either make or break your semester.
