Dr. Cortney S. Warren is an Associate Adjunct Professor of Psychology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. Although Cortney received tenure from UNLV in 2012, she formally retired from academia in 2014 to pursue a career that would allow her more time with her family and more interaction with the general public. In a recent TEDx talk called Honest Liars: The Psychology of Self-Deception (http://youtu.be/YpEeSa6zBTE), Cortney described her decision to retire from academia and her view that self-deception is our biggest obstacle to life fulfillment. In addition to her recent TEDx talk, Cortney interacts with various media sources including writing a blog for Psychology Today

AUTHOR OF\nNaked Truth\n\nHumans are masters of self-deception. We don’t like to think of ourselves as liars; it hurts us too much to admit. So we lie to ourselves about that

    too. As a clinical psychologist

I am frequently confronted with the fact that we all lie to ourselves. And I believe that it is our biggest obstacle to living a fulfilling life. The Naked Truth is dedicated to confronting self-deception. No sugar-coating. No coddling. Just the honest reflection of you standing naked in front of a mirror.

Humans are excellent liars. We don’t like to think of ourselves as capable of lying; it hurts us too much to admit. So we lie to ourselves about that

    too. \n\nAs a clinical psychologist

I am regularly confronted with the brutal truth that we all lie. I am not talking about deliberate

    bold-faced lying. No

this type of dishonesty is far harder to detect and admit. It is the kind of lying that comes from not being psychologically strong enough to be honest with ourselves about who we are. And I believe that it is our biggest obstacle to living a fulfilling life. \n\nI wrote this book for anyone interested in becoming more honest. In it

I present a range of self-deceptive examples couched in psychological theory to help us explore ourselves. Although it is a relatively short book

indented to be read in about an hour

I hope that the content provokes deep thought. For when we are honest about who we really are

we have the opportunity to change.
