My name is Christopher Hill and I have a passion for public health education. I am a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) with a Masters of Science degree in Health Promotion and Education (Community Health track) and a Graduate Certificate in Substance Abuse Prevention. Additionally, I recently earned a California Career and Technical Education (CTE) preliminary teaching license as well as a TESOL certificate. I am passionate about public health, especially in rural/under-served communities. Intercultural/global health issues, chronic disease prevention, community health, and sexual health are my areas of expertise. My additional field of knowledge/practice is in workforce development for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, public health practitioners, and other health-related professionals. This includes legislation, continuing education, certification procedures, mentorship, and professional pathways programs for young adults. Throughout my experiences working at the university, city, county, state, national-levels, I have grown substantially as a professional as well as deepened my own interest in many health areas. It is my goal to positively impact the public health of the community/communities I work in, as well as develop a competent public health workforce through health promotion training.

Career Development Specialist
As a Career Development Specialist I develop and maintain internship programs for high school students at local Sharp-affiliated health care facilities. Students graduate with years of hands-on experience in a variety of fields. Additionally, I teach multiple courses on public health-related content. This position supports the professional growth of a diverse student body through a variety of activities and initiatives.

Wellness Solutions, LLC manages health promotion, education, and evaluation activities as well as consulting for organizations interested in implementing similar programs. The major current activity is coordinating the Continuing Education Contact Hour (CECH) reporting and evaluations for Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES and MCHES) for NCHEC, Inc.
We work intimately with the Hawaii Public Health Training Hui at the University of Hawaii Office of Public Health Studies, part of the Western Region Public Health Training Centers (PHTC) federal grant program.

Working in Hawai’i and the U.S.-Affiliated Pacific Islands presents unique challenges and opportunities for mental health workforce development. This chapter presents previous, current, and future efforts aimed at not only increasing the size of the workforce but also developing a better trained workforce for existing professionals. The authors draw from their experiences at the Hawaii/Pacific Basin Area Health Education Centers (AHEC), one of the only organizations performing medical, public health, and mental health workforce development across the Pacific Region, to explore culturally appropriate initiatives and interventions. Programs targeting a range of audiences from youth to adults, students to professionals, and patients/clients to caregivers are discussed. The chapter emphasizes health career pathway programs for youth and young adults wishing to enter the health workforce and a variety of educational development and continuing education opportunities for professionals. Specific mental health workforce initiatives are described.
