I'm a scientist in the field of biomedical researcher at SickKids Hospital in Toronto and a Professor at the University of Toronto. My research focuses on understanding the fundamental basis for the genetic disease- Cystic Fibrosis and in defining strategies for targeted therapeutics. I am a leader of interdisciplinary research teams that include basic and clinical researchers. I also collaborate with pharmaceutical companies to expedite the translation of laboratory-based findings into clinically relevant interventions.
I enjoy educating future biomedical researchers and communicating with the public regarding the importance of scientific discovery and evidence -based policy decision making.
I recently went back to school for a year, to the Munk School of Global Journalism at the University of Toronto to learn how to communicate with people about scientific discovery in the areas of human health, genetics and the effects of our changing environment. I wrote articles for major media outlets including the CBC, Canadian Press, The Toronto Star and The Conversation.
Now, I'm more motivated than ever to continue to write stories to help people without a science background understand the impact of our changing society and climate on their health and the health of their children and grandchildren.
