My career began as an elementary school teacher serving vulnerable populations in Central California and South-Central Los Angeles. I served as a Professor of Educational Psychology and Teacher Education for over 25 years, and fulfilled a plethora of leadership roles and responsibilities across four different IHEs.
For 15 years I developed and directed school-university partnerships (Professional Development Schools) at three different institutions. Since 2014, I have consulted with several Chilean universities interested in this approach to improve teacher preparation and the education of vulnerable populations. In 2015, I received a Fulbright Scholar Award and had the privilege of living and working in Chile for 5 months.
My current work focuses on improving the educational outcomes for college students, particularly first -generation, underrepresented minority students, through designing and implementing professional development opportunities and individual course consultations with faculty and graduate teaching assistants.
My passion and commitment to issues of equity, access, and social justice permeates my personal and professional work, and is well documented on my professional vita.
