I provide behavior supports and ABA skills trainings for individuals served by Community Living in Kentucky (CLiK) and as a private clinician. I am honored to assist clients in developing everyday adaptive behaviors, and improve social communication and academic or vocational outcomes.
Behavior supports begins with a functional assessment of challenging behaviors, a behavior support plan and may include services such as transition planning, IEP development, emotion and social skills development using Acceptance and Commitment Training. I have been privileged to develop supports that enhance the engagement of individuals with autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disabilities in home, school, and community for the past 21 years, as a researcher and as the therapist-parent of a child on the spectrum.
My Ph.D. In Child Development-Educational Psychology at UW-Madison has proven essential to my practice. While there, I assisted in NIH funded research to discover principles of teaching and learning, learned milestones for development of skills across the whole child (from motor skills to cognitive skills) and across the lifespan (from infancy to early adulthood). My technical expertise stems from my post-graduate training in Applied Behavior Analysis-as applied to Autism Spectrum Disorders from University of Massachusetts-Lowell, and I learned an exceptional amount from my son with autism, who is now working full time and who is one of the happiest, funniest, kindest people I have had the good fortune to know. I strive to be the parent he deserves every single day.
I enjoy assisting schools in modifying instruction to promote engagement in learning, developing partnerships with home, and reducing target behaviors.
