My dissertation work broke new ground in Canadian history
examining wrestling's social significance in Western Canada from the Pre-Confederation period to the Great Depression. Key themes included wrestling's role in challenging and affirming public perceptions surrounding class
ethnicity

masculinity and respectable public conduct in late nineteenth and early twentieth century Manitoba.
