White Racial Attitudes Toward the Mississippi State Flag
This research examines white college students' attitudes toward the Mississippi state flag. The findings reveal that white attitudes are driven by old-fashioned racism
in tandem with the new racism
controlling for such variables as party identification and ideology.

Race and Gender Matter: Refining Models of Legislative Policy Making in State Legislatures

This article investigates the impact of race
gender and party on the introduction of bills in the Mississippi state legislature. The findings reveal that race
gender and party impact bill introduction. Prior research has examined whether a male or female matters; or whether a black or white matters. Our research reveals that all of the above matter. We have to consider the intersectionality of race
gender and party. Why would we expect a white female Republican to introduce the same bills as a white female Democrat. More importantly
however
is the fact that black women are doubly disadvantaged as being discriminated as women and blacks. Hence
we expected them to lead the charge in the sponsorship of progressive bills. Indeed
this was the case. Black females were more likely to introduce progressive bills when compared to any other group in the Mississippi state legislature.
