I care deeply that my students have good lives. Life is about service to others, and, given my skill set, I can best serve by preparing students with the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in their careers. In my courses, I focus on the practical aspects of course topics with the understanding that a deep conceptual understanding of a topic will allow students to apply their learning to the broader spectrum of life beyond the narrow, highly-stylized problems worked in class.
As a social scientist, I am primarily interested in pedagogy, accounting’s role in resource allocation across society, and cross-border financial information flows. Pedagogical research aligns with my desire to be more effective in the classroom. Resource allocation implications of accounting research aligns with my desire to contribute to a more sustainable, just society. Research of cross-border financial information flows aligns with my belief that hostilities between highly-integrated economies is less likely. My preferred research methodology has moved away from archival research to experimental and case study research. Current projects include investigating relevance, motivation and performance in the accounting course; website disclosure by nonprofits of financial information; and mispricing of foreign earnings.
