I assumed my first post-doctoral faculty position at Hampton University (HU). I assumed that position as Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology & eventually earned tenure & promotion to Associate Professor. I was asked to serve as Chairperson of that Department & served. I was also nominated by my department for the HU Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award on more than one occasion, published, led a study abroad semester in Kanuma, Japan, earned a Ford Foundation Fellowship to study in Ghana and was invited for a second time to teach under the auspices of the University of Ghana & the National Council for Black Studies (NCBS). The HU tenure followed completion of my doctoral coursework @ Berkeley, relocation to Savannah, Georgia to conduct dissertation research on the origins of African American culture in the South Carolina Lowcountry & Georgia Coastal Region.
