Rating Professor Holwerda is a bit of a struggle. He is highly intelligent and great to listen to and to learn some about astronomy. However, the difficulty of the course was all over the place as far as tests and homework go. We didn't get grades outside of the final and midterm, but in the end it seemed pointless as I got an A+ anyway.
Awful
Professor Benne Holwerda uses a method like Chastain, where you're supposed to learn through modules and videos at home, then practice them in class. This approach doesn't work well, particularly when Holwerda doesn't seem to understand the material. Going to class is pretty much useless, unless it's for group projects. You're better off choosing Chastain or a teacher who doesn't use this method.
Awesome
He's an awesome professor. This class can be tough, but if you show up each day, stay focused, and complete the online homework, you can get an A. Just a heads-up, you might want to sit closer to the front. He isn’t very loud and he's writing is small.
