Awful

I wasn't sure at first whether I should choose this class or not based on ratemyprofessor but after taking the class, Austin is not really a good professor. Going to class is only for participants and tips or else just don't go because its never helpful at all. He is confused with his own explanation and his explanations are very confusing.

Awful

Careful with Professor Boyle. Not a great teacher and on top he has a bad temper.

Average

The class test average is unusually low for Econ 102, and not surprisingly even though Dr. Boyle is nice and means well, he rushes through lectures and doesn't give the best examples. I sincerely wish I would had taken advice from the other reviewers and taken this class with a different professor. I ended up even more confused when I asked for help.

Good

Prof. Boyle is amazing! However, some homework questions are difficult and you'll have to think out of the regular situation. You can get good grades by going to his office hour though. Final exam is similar to the past ones and he would give you former semesters versions. You will be fine as long as you practice and spend time on the course.

Poor

Professor Boyle may be a good person, but I do not like his teaching style. His lectures are boring and you have to study again afterward. Luckily, the best thing about his class is the grading system. He drops two quizzes. Quizzes are similar to practice exams and can be helpful. Honestly, you can do well in this class if you can withstand the stress.

ECON 013 Strategic Reasoning

This course is about strategically interdependent decisions. In such situations, the outcome of your actions depends also on the actions of others. When making your choice, you have to think what the others will choose, who in turn are thinking what you will be choosing, and so on. Game Theory offers several concepts and insights for understanding such situations, and for making better strategic choices. This course will introduce and develop some basic ideas from game theory, using illustrations, applications, and cases drawn from business, economics, politics, sports, and even fiction and movies. Some interactive games will be played in class. There will be little formal theory, and the only pre-requisites are some high-school algebra and having taken ECON 001. However, general numeracy (facility interpreting and doing numerical graphs, tables, and arithmetic calculations) is very important. This course will also be accepted by the Economics department as an Econ course, to be counted toward the minor in Economics (or as an Econ elective). One-term course offered either term Also Offered As: PPE 311 Prerequisites: ECON 001, some high school algebra Activity: Lecture 1 Course Unit Notes: This course may NOT be taken concurrently or after ECON 212.
