Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
At Saint Louis University
I pursued a PhD in English
with a concentration in medieval literature. I also took an interdisciplinary emphasis in Medieval Studies through the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies
which helped to broaden my knowledge of the period through history
philosophy
and Middle High German. I participated in numerous reading and research groups
including the Woode Walkers Medievalist Reading Group
several Latin reading groups
Neorxanawanga an Old and Middle English reading group
and Athenaeum
a long 19th century research group. I taught several courses
including Introduction to Poetry and Intro to the Short Story
freshman composition
and a course of my own design. I worked as a research assistant
and worked in the Language Resource Center where I gained knowledge of language acquisition software and other technological skills I would not have gained otherwise. I was able to participate in Graduate and Faculty committees and other programs.

Master of Arts (MA)
I studied English literature
especially the Middle Ages
but also took courses on the Renaissance
the Romantic period
Gothic literature
Greco-Roman literature
methods in research
and literary theory. I wrote my MA thesis on Greco-Roman and medieval heroes who encounter divinity or spirits at riversides and the significance of these encounters. Brockport also gave me the chance to work as a writing consultant
which was my first experience as a writing tutor and advising students on their work in an official capacity.
English Language and Literature
General
I worked as a writing consultant and had several informal study groups
including a group that studied Latin.

Bachelor of Arts (BA)
At Niagara University
I pursued a double major in English and philosophy. I received a broad education in both fields from ancient
to medieval
to modern and postmodern. Having completed my PhD recently
I can say that NU powerfully equipped me with a solid foundation for my academic career. I also participated in the Philosophy Debate Club
which was a great deal of fun. The mentorship I received from the professors at NU was nothing short of stellar - such language often seems cursory
but I truly
deeply valued my time at NU as a student.

The Boethian Topos of Mentorship: Mapping a Middle Term Between Rhetoric and Philosophy
I argue for a reading of Boethius's topical treatises that reconciles philosophy and rhetoric in Boethius's understanding
seeing the topics as a rhetorical system that allows interlocutors to explore philosophical systems as meta-topics that can be placed into dialogue with each other to discover new philosophical insights.
The Boethian Topos of Mentorship: Mapping a Middle Term Between Rhetoric and Philosophy
I argue in this article for a greater textual unity in the poem
\"The Awntyrs off Arthure
\" than has always been perceived by its critics. I argue that the poem uses tactful nostalgia to reconcile philosophical and theological realities with political tensions.

and composition at Villa Maria College. I recently completed my PhD in the English department at Saint Louis University. I am interested in the ways in which medieval epistemology and pedagogy impact medieval literature
especially in Old and Middle English. Much of my research also involves medievalism in later periods
including contemporary popular culture. I'm generally interested in what I refer to as the \"craft of imagination\" and how literature allows us to improve it; as such
I am particularly invested in the work of figures such as Carl Jung
Joseph Campbell
M.M. Bakhtin
Walter J. Ong
Martin Buber
example of writers whose thought show how literature helps us to turn the imagination's potential into more than we could have possibly imagined. I have made it my life's mission to understand Boethius's Consolation of Philosophy; if I can do that
then I'll have been successful in my scholarly career.
