A virtual professor, I teach online music, humanities and women’s studies classes at the University of La Verne (California), Troy University (Alabama), the University of Maryland University College, and Excelsior College (New York). I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree (1981) in Music from Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, a Master of Music degree (1983) in Organ Performance from Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, New Jersey, and a Ph.D. in Music Cultures (2000) from Union Institute and University in Cincinnati, Ohio. My dissertation title is "Flowers in the Musical Canon: A Transformed, Gender Inclusive, Culturally Pluralistic Model Core Curriculum in College Music." The three areas of specialization in my doctoral studies included: Curriculum Transformation, Adult Education and Women's Studies. A doctoral seminar led by brothers Arthur and Ferdinand Jones, “The Cultural and Psychological Aspects of African American Music,” changed my life and continues to inform my teaching.
In addition to online teaching, I would like to serve as a consultant to higher education faculty and administrators who are interested in offering online courses in music, humanities and women’s studies, especially to returning adult students in degree completion programs. I am also interested in creating instructor materials associated with higher education textbooks in music, humanities and women’s studies specifically designed for online classes. These materials could be used for all students, but especially for online classes geared toward returning adult students. I am also interested in writing entries for blogs with a focus on practical applications for online faculty.
