Better Bones & Balance® |
The BBB classes are designed to gradually improve balance and strength to avoid falls and maintain independence. \"Better bones are a bonus\"
says Associate Professor Kathy Gunter
Ph.D. \"Most fractures occur from a fall. If you avoid the fall
chances are you won't experience a fracture.
The Better Bones & Balance Program ® (BBB) is based on research (PDF) from Oregon State University's Bone Research Laboratory. Study participants who performed balance and strength exercises using weighted vests reduced their rate of hip bone loss and reduced their risk of falls. All of the study participants were post menopausal women.

BEPA Toolkit | GROW Healthy Kids and Communities
The BEPA Toolkit provides educators with materials and activity ideas that can be used in and outside of the classroom and before
during
or after school to increase children's physical activity time at school. BEPA represents an evidence-based
behaviorally focused program that seamlessly integrates the components of energy balance: healthful eating and physical activity.
About the Project

The Hallie Ford Center
as a part of Oregon State University and Extension
develops research on physical activity and nutrition for all ages. \n\nOne of the programs I work for is called Better Bones and Balance®. Based on research done at Oregon State University's Bone laboratory
an exercise program was developed to aid post menopausal woman with bone density and muscle growth. Last year
I helped organize
prepare
and host the Better Bones and Balance® training for certification as I will do in september of 2014 as well. I also help in the development of the Better Bones and Balance materials (DVD
Registration forms
booklets) and website.\n\nThe second program I work for in the Hallie Ford Center is called GROW Healthy Kids and Communities. Through Grant funding
we have developed an educational exercise and nutrition curriculum for rural area elementary schools all over Oregon. GROW HKC also finds resources for these schools that help support healthy activity in the community and home environments in addition to the school environment. \n\nThis Friday
March 14th 2014 We will be breaking ground at one of our elementary school for the 500th elementary garden in Oregon!
