Anaerobic Capacities and Fatigue Indices of Collegiate Division I Male and Female athletes
The purpose of this study is to measure peak anaerobic power
anaerobic capacities
anaerobic fatigue indices and blood lactate concentrations of Division I Collegiate male and female athletes. The objective is to develop normative data for electronically braked cycle ergometer testing with the use of toe clips. Athletes will perform the 30-second Wingate Anaerobic Test (WAnT) on an electronically braked velotron cycle ergometer in the Human Performance Laboratory of the Athletics-Recreation Center at Valparaiso University. The WAnT is a 30-second all-out exhaustive cycle ergometer test where athletes pedal against a resistance set at a certain percentage of his or her body weight. Height
weight
age
body mass index
body fat percentage
resting heart rate (RHR) and resting blood pressure (RBP) will be assessed prior to testing. Peak heart rate (HRpeak) will be recorded during the test and BLa will be assessed at five- and eight-minute post-testing. Blood lactate concentration will be assessed utilizing a blood lactate analyzer. RacerMate Velotron Wingate Software will compute peak anaerobic power
anaerobic capacity
anaerobic fatigue index and total work.
