San Antonio College - Chemistry
Ph.D
Ph.D studies in Inorganic Chemistry with concentration in Composites and Nanomaterials. Worked extensively with 2-D layered transitional metal oxide matrices prone to intercalation by small organic and inorganic moieties. Specialized work on the high temperature superconductor Bi2Sr2CaCu2O(8+d) system and a related family of layered insulator bismuthates. Also worked extensively with o-MoO3
h-MoO3
V2O5
and doped variants of those. Postulated the role of 2-D layered metal oxide matrices with reducible cationic species in producing metal nanorods and microcrystals. Developed new synthetic routes for metal nanorods
metal nanoparticles and metal oxide nano sheets based on the redox chemistry of pyrrole and polypyrrole. The research yielded promising avenues in the area of high temperature superconducting composites
solid lubricants
intercalated 2-D metal oxides
nanomaterials in the form of metal and alloyed nanorods
metal oxide nanosheets
and noble metal nanoparticles.

M.S.
Master in Science degree in Inorganic Chemistry with concentration on Composite materials with electroactive properties. Worked extensively on o-MoO3-based composites with small inorganic molecules. Developed new synthetic routes for the non-stoichiometric Molybdenum Oxide Bronzes. Also worked on Carbon doped MoS2 for heterogeneous catalysis in dehydrosulfurization of crude oil applications in the refinery environments.

Enrolled as Inorganic Chemistry Engineering major and then transferred to Chemistry studies with minor in Physics. Interrupted studies for 1 year
1992-1993. Started the studies during the communist regime times and finished during the transitional post-communist era years. Part of the reasons for the change in major and the interruption of studies.
