Aimée Sands is a business writing coach, educator, poet, and Emmy Award-winning independent documentary filmmaker. Since 2005, she has taught composition to business and other undergraduates. She currently serves as a business writing consultant for the Harvard Business School. She is also the director of the independent film "What Makes Me White?" which she developed after a career as a journalist in public broadcasting. She speaks fluent Spanish. Her poems have been published widely, and she is the author of the poetry collection "The Green-go Turn of Telling" (Salmon Poetry, 2012). She holds an MFA in creative writing from Bennington College, and in 2013 was awarded a fellowship at the MacDowell Colony. She is a co-director of the Brookline Poetry Series and Master Classes.

    Independent Documentary Filmmaker

    Plan, fundraise, write, and direct documentary What Makes Me White?, a 3-part series of short films exploring whiteness as a learned racial identity. Part One released in 2007 to favorable reviews; distribution to over 300 universities, churches, and nonprofits. Kellogg Foundation grant enabled production of Part Two, which was released in 2016. Project is designed to foster thoughtful reflection and productive discussion about racial justice issues.

    Consulting Producer; Associate Producer

    Collaborated with director to write and produce the final 90-minute documentary in landmark PBS series "Africans in America," a history of American slavery. Peabody and Emmy Awards. Assisted bi-lingual Latino documentary series to meet its production mandates. Guided script development, supervised production, managed budget.
