She was born and raised in the United Kingdom, where she gained a First (BA) in Politics from the University of East Anglia and an M.Sc in Comparative Social Policy from Oxford University.
Her dissertation project - "The Institutionalization of Same-Sex Marriage: How Access to Legal Marriage Impacts LGBQ People's Relationships" - is a mixed methods interview and survey study with married and unmarried gay men and lesbians in Massachusetts and Indiana.
