We used 2 books in Prof. Varbel's class. He requires journals and open-note pop quizzes based on readings. He also gives 3 essays, 1 take-home research paper, and 1 final in-class essay. Unless you're a good writer, he'll be a tough essay grader on you. He doesn't give midterms though, just 1 small group project with presentation. There were only a few extra credit opportunities given. It's always a boring class with him.
